As much as I love them, I never fully trust Texas Longhorn Cattle.
Their hide patterns are gorgeous, and their smarts and hardiness have helped the breed survive. Whenever I spot them on a ranch here in the western USA, I always stop to take a few minutes to admire them. But sometimes I think they'd rather run me down than let me take their photo. They have a look in their eyes that seems a bit feral to me, like they haven't been fully domesticated and don't quite trust us 2-legged creatures.
I wanted to capture all of these aspects of longhorns in this painting.
I found this imposing pair wandering the scrubland of the Lyndon B. Johnson State Park and Historic Site in the Texas Hill Country, near Fredricksburg. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of this painting will benefit the Texas Parks and Wildlife Foundation.
Sold ready to hang on heavy-duty gallery-wrap canvas.
