At dawn on a late summer morning near Jackson Hole, Wyoming, tall cottonwood trees break up the silhouette of distant mountains. Moose and bison roam in the nearby, but the real show at this time of day is the sky. 

 

In this painting, I wanted to capture that moment when the first rays of sun light up the sky while leaving most of the landscape in shadow. This is my favorite time of day...the time when the land begins to come awake after a night of darkness.
