About this oil:
Sometimes bone-chilling cold can create beautiful patterns of ice and snow. I ran across this Hereford steer one February while hiking in an open range area of Colorado. The temperature was close to -20F, but this steer seemed little fazed by the chill.
With a heavy coat that gathered a layer of ice, he seemed to actually enjoy the subzero temperatures. What I loved about this scene was not only the ice caking the back of the steer, but the beautiful teals and purples in the ice-covered background. I wanted to make the viewer feel a little of that chill that I felt that day on the range.
