About this oil:

Mexican Gray Wolves are a little smaller and lighter than the wolves familiar to most of us. Their coloring is less variable too...usually shades of tan and brown that blend into the deserts of North America.

In this piece I wanted something of a quiet scene. I pictured a Mexican Gray Wolf wandering around the desert, looking for breakfast perhaps, when she comes across a blooming Hedgehog Cactus.

As I worked the painting, it clearly "wanted" to become more tonal so I shifted my palette to be a bit more monochromatic. I added a little drama to the piece by darkening the background and bringing in a little touch of red, which then hightlighted the outline of the wolf.
