About this oil:
In central Utah, not far off the interstate, just on the edge of the the San Rafael Swell, a panel of pictographs graces the walls of a small canyon. This rock art is unlike any other. We refer to them today as the Buckhorn Wash pictographs. Tall, reed-thin depictions of people or human-like creatures seem to dance along the sandstone walls. In some places, the figures appear to have wings (or is it fringe on clothing?) and are accompanied by snakes, birds, canids, and deer or mountain sheep. Probably made by Archaic Nomads, best guesses to their age are more than 2,000 years.
My thoughts led me to wonder if these ancient artists wished they could fly like the birds they depicted on the canyon walls.
Here, I've shown a few of the winged human figures along with an American Kestrel, a master of the air who makes flying seem like a walk in the park.
