About this oil:
In this piece I wanted to highlight the sense of quiet repose I saw in this young woman. Is she thinking about her future, or perhaps someone she loves?
 
I loved the dramatically dark background and how it acted as a barely-there backdrop for her beautiful profile and that gorgeous shawl.
 
The piece came together relatively quickly over 3 sessions, but the most challenging aspect was to avoid going too brown (and dead-looking) in the background. Instead, much of the background is actually a very dark purplish-umber that is livened up with some lavenders and reds.
