What inspired this piece? An incredibly beautiful, large bull elk calling to the ladies from a hilltop.
The challenge I had with this piece was maintaining the majesty of this gorgeous bull without overuse of color. I felt a somewhat muted palette would call more attention to the bull. At first, I went with a sage green background. After letting that sit for a few months, though, I felt a cooler blue would set off the elk more effectively.
