About this oil:
This small landscape is a study of San Francisco de Asis church in Taos, New Mexico. What I loved aout this scene is the way the adobe glowed golden in the midday light. The challenge was to keep the painting colorful while also giving a sense of the intense light.
My first thought was to use a light pink/adobe color, one that had a lot of white mixed in. But that only gave a washed-out effect. What worked was to repaint it with more saturated oranges and yellows, with some touches of gray/blue and purple.
I originally had the sky quite saturated blue, but again that didn't work out because it clashed terribly with the oranges and yellows of the adobe. I ended up changing that color to something a little lighter and more yellow: a muted turquoise that incorporated some of the yellows of the church.
Hand painted by me in oil paint on panel. This painting is sold in a gallery-quality frame and ready to hang.
